Are My Medical Expenses Covered?

This is a question we get a lot,

“How do I ensure my medical expenses are covered by Medicare”?

The answer is your Medicare summary notice (MSN)

This is not a bill. This is a notice that people who use original Medicare as their primary payer, get in the mail every three months for their Medicare parts A & B covered services.

The MSN shows all your covered services or supplies that your providers or suppliers billed to Medicare.

It shows what Medicare paid, and the maximum amount you MAY owe.

WHAT TO DO WHEN YOU GET THE MSN.

  1. Keep all your receipts and bills, you  should compare them to your MSN to be sure that you got all the services listed
  2. If you have a secondary insurance, check to see if it covers anything that Medicare did not.
  3. If you paid a bill before you got your notice, compare your MSN with the bill to make sure  you paid the correct amount for that service.
  4. If any item or service is denied immediately call your doctors office to confirm they submitted the claim correctly.

If they did not, request the office resubmit that bill to Medicare with proper coding.
